Frequently Asked Questions

What is a borehole?
A borehole is a narrow (diameter around 125mm/5inches or higher), deep hole drilled into the ground to access groundwater or other resources.
How deep can a borehole be?
Boreholes can be drilled to depths of several meters, depending on the geology of the area and the purpose of the borehole. In Ghana average depth of borehole ranges between 30m to about 100m.
Why do I have to conduct Geophysical site investigation?
Without site investigation one can easily hit a dry well whereas there is suitable site hitting high yielding borehole available on the site. Conducting a Geophysical site investigation before drilling a water well is important because it allows you to determine the geological structure of the area and the aquifer characteristics. This information can be used to evaluate potential sites for drilling, identify potential production and/or contamination zones, and optimize the drilling process. It can also be used to determine the most appropriate type of well to be drilled, as well as the best location for the well, to ensure the most efficient
Why is it so expensive to drill a borehole?
The cost of drilling is quite high because of what goes into it, that is the geophysical site investigation, the cost of mobilizing and drilling with a drilling rig which consumes huge volumes of fuel for drilling a single borehole, the cost of uPVC plains and screens, the gravel pack and all the other peripheral materials.
Whom Should I consult for my borehole drilling?
You should consult a borehole drilling company with professionals such Hydrogeologist in the team. They will be able to provide you with the best advice and the most reliable service when it comes to drilling a borehole. They will be able to provide you with the necessary equipment and expertise to ensure a successful borehole drilling project.

NB: Bear in mind that inasmuch as you are not ready to consult a quack doctor for your medical care so should you also consult a professional for all your projects.
Should I always consider the lowest quotation for my borehole drilling project?
Bear in mind some cheap things can be expensive at the long round. Always request for breakdown of quotation to know the scope of water work the quotation is being prepared for. Do not to ask for specification of materials and equipment that are going to be used for the project.

NB: Always bear in mind repairing poorly drilled or constructed borehole is nearly impossible and may require you to spend huge sums of money to drill a new one. It has happened to a lot of people already. The cost of drilling a borehole can vary widely depending on the specific project, but typically ranges from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars.
Does drilling a private borehole come with some benefits?

1. Cost Effective: Drilling a borehole is often a cost-effective solution for domestic purposes. It eliminates the need to buy large quantities of water, and the costs associated with installation and maintenance are often substantially lower than that of other water sources such as a well, river or a pond.
2. Reliable: Boreholes are a reliable source of water, providing a steady supply of water throughout the year.
This makes them ideal for domestic use, as they provide a consistent source of water for use in the home.
3. Flexible: Boreholes can be drilled to suit a variety of needs and requirements. They can be drilled to different depths and sizes, allowing for a tailored water supply.

Is borehole water always safe for consumption without treatment?

Water from boreholes are mostly clean and safe relative to other sources of water. They are usually located deep within the ground and are often protected from contamination and pollution.
That notwithstanding;
• Borehole water may contain high in minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron and ions
depending of the nature of minerals in the geologic formation. In instances where these ions exceed the standards for consumption, the water from the borehole will require treatment to make it safe.
• Human activities such illegal mining, discharges of hazardous chemical from industrial and agricultural activities can also affect groundwater quality.
